SSDEC Kátł’odeeche First Nation Update - September 15, 2023
September 15, 2023
Dear families of Kátł’odeeche First Nation,
As we navigate the aftermath of the wildfires, the communities of NWT have organized a phased re-entry process. This initiative ensures that our schools are safe and ready to welcome our dedicated staff and eager students.
Please note that the following dates are based on current re-entry timelines and are tentative and dependant on acceptable risk level for the general public to return into Hay River and area; they may change depending on the evolving situation and we will inform you immediately if this timeline changes.
September 26th (Tuesday) Chief Sunrise Education Centre will hold its "soft start" reopening. While this will be a regular school day in terms of hours, the emphasis will be on creating a warm and welcoming environment, one that makes the students feel safe and secure and part of the CSEC school family. Parents are warmly invited to drop in and participate in this day of reconnection.
September 27th (Wednesday): Full academic sessions will commence, marking our collective step back into the enriching world of learning.
Addressing potential concerns about the missed academic period, please be assured that plans are in motion to address and compensate for this gap. Detailed communication will be shared in due course.
In these times of adversity, our collective strength and unity are our greatest assets. Your safety, and the well-being of our students and staff, remain our utmost priority.
Warm regards,
Souhail Soujah Superintendent, SSDEC
