Three Feathers wins Best Short at CIFF

Canadian International Faith & Family Festival latest to showcase first film produced in four languages FORT SMITH, NT – The South Slave Divisional Education Council is pleased to announce its film Three Feathers won the award for Best Short at the Canadian International Faith & Family Film Festival. Three Feathers, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Richard Van Camp, is the first film shot in four languages (English, South Slavey, Chipewyan and Bush Cree). SSDEC Superintendent honoured with Polar Medal

Last week, South Slave Divisional Education Council Superintendent Dr. Curtis Brown was awarded the Polar Medal at a ceremony at Rideau Hall in Ottawa. The award was presented to Dr. Brown by Governor General Julie Payette and celebrated his accomplishments in his more than 30 years as an educator in Canada's North. The Polar Medal is awarded to individuals whose achievements contribute to preserving northern culture and heritage. Dr. Brown began his education career in the North in 1987 and has held several roles with increasing responsibilities. South Slave educators recognized for excellence

August 27, 2019 Hay River, NT – The South Slave Divisional Education Council (SSDEC) announced the 2019 winners of the Excellence in Education Award at its annual Fall Inservice. The Program Staff Award winner is Ms. Laura Boucher (Fort Resolution). Ms. Boucher is a long-time Northern Indigenous educator who has regularly been identified as a role model to both students and staff. Through her efforts to Indigenize education in Deninu School as a classroom teacher and now as a Program Support Teacher and Assistant Principal, Ms. Boucher created the Deninu Drummers and Deninu Dancers groups, which are well-respected in their home of Fort Resolution and in other communities where the groups hav
