SSDEC / CSFTNO Update - August 25, 2023

NOTE - The GNWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment will now be releasing a Q&A on social media (https://www.facebook.com/yourGNWT/ ) and the GNWT Public Safety page (https://www.gov.nt.ca/public-safety ) early next week, which we hope will provide some additional insight into the ongoing discussions and considerations for moving forward.

August 25, 2023

Dear SSDEC and CSFTNO Families,

We hope this communication finds you safe and settled in whatever location you find yourself during the continuation of the evacuation.

We are striving to keep you updated with the most current and up to date information as possible. Please note that due to the changing situation we recommend checking media channels, websites, emails, and the social media of your Education Body for current information.

As of this date, we can state clearly that schools will not be open for student attendance on August 28, 2023. We also know they will not be opening on September 5, 2023.

Our understanding is that once the Evacuation Order is lifted there will be a staged return to our communities. We know that this process of returning will require some time and planning. This includes inspecting our facilities, providing time for our staff to return to their community, and ensuring they have time to prepare for the return of students.

The date of when this re-entry process will begin is still unknown, however we will provide more information once it has been announced.

Please read the attached information from the GNWT Department of Education, Culture and Employment which we hope will provide some additional insight into the ongoing discussions and considerations moving forward.

Please know that we will have our schools up and running when it is safe to do so.

Respectfully, The SSDEC and CSFTNO Schools
